Mr. Nguyen Van Tang is a computer science expert holding a Ph.D. in Software Engineering. He possesses profound experience in R&D, high-tech project management, and national-level innovation strategy. He is recognized for his multi-domain management experience, ranging from embedded technology and enterprise software to cutting-edge fields like AI and Blockchain.

Academic Profile and Advanced Degrees

Mr. Tang earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science (Software Engineering Speciality) from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) (2006–2009). His doctoral thesis focused on Software model checking and inclusion problems.

He also holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Vietnam National University, Hanoi (2003–2005), and a B.Sc. in Maths and Informatics. Additionally, he completed MBA/CFO programs and the Global Innovation Policy Acceleration program in the UK (2018, 2019).

Management and Innovation Leadership

Mr. Tang’s career trajectory includes significant leadership roles in technology management and research:

  • Digital Transformation Leader: Since November 2021, he has served as a Project Manager, researcher, and lecturer at the Information Technology Application Center, Ho Chi Minh National Politics Academy, where he leads the digital transformation project for education and training.
  • National Innovation Manager: From 2017 to 2021, he was the Head and senior researcher at the Information and Development Division, National Technology Innovation Foundation (NATIF), Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam. He managed international collaboration for technological innovation funding programs with organizations such as Newton Funds/Innovate UK, IIA of Israel, KOTEC of Korea, and JST of Japan.
  • R&D Fellow: Mr. Tang works as a Research Fellow and Project Manager at KSE High-Tech Solutions JSC and Tomochain Technology JSC (since 2017), conducting R&D projects to develop blockchain, AI, and data analysis solutions and software systems.

Mr. Tang has lectured extensively at universities in Vietnam, the USA, and the UK:

  • International Guest Lecturer: He served as an Invited Researcher/Guest Lecturer at Maryland University, USA (2012) and Bath University, UK (2010), lecturing master students on software specification, analysis, design, and verification.
  • Lecturing in Vietnam: He has taught subjects including Software Engineering and Software Project Management, Software Reliability and Testing, and Introduction to Scientific Computation and Data analysis at institutions such as Swinburne University of Technology, Hanoi (taught in English), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), and Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI).

Mr. Tang served as a principal investigator or key researcher on several major projects:

Software Verification and Formal Methods: While at AIST, Japan (2009–2013), he participated in collaborative projects on software quality assurance with Japanese industrial companies (Daikin, Omron, Toshiba).

  • He co-developed a patented method and tool (FOT tool) for automated test case generation, utilized by Toshiba and Daikin.
  • He successfully modeled and tested the railway fare calculation and adjustment system for Japan Railways and Omron, a project noted as a significant example of applying formal methods to industry in Japan.

Data Science and AI: Mr. Tang was the principal investigator for a key national high-tech project on Optimization and Big data for Logistics and Transportation Problems. More recently, he led the development of a deep learning framework for automatic optical character recognition (OCR) for invoice/form data extraction.

Blockchain Technology: He conducted research on consensus protocols for public blockchain 3.0, proposing a double block validation solution to ensure fairness and security (for Tomochain).
